Ian Lloyd declares his love to CSS …

Interview: timo / 1. November 2005 /

Ian LloydIan Lloyd runs Accessify.com, a site dedicated to promoting web accessibility and providing tools for web developers. Ian is also a member of the Web Standards Project. He works full-time for Nationwide Building Society, where he has played an important role in their adoption of accessible design methods.

Why do you love CSS?
The single-page redesign is such a pleasure. The fact that I can say to people “Don’t like the way that looks? I can fix it … and do it VERY quickly” Well, if I was a freelancer charging by the hour I might not want to make site-wide changes such a simple and quick process!
What drives you crazy when using CSS?
The usual - browser bugs and different interpretations. Most things are predictable, and you can build a site and have it look mostly right on a wide range of browsers, but there are always the little problems that can end up derailing a whole design approach!
Why should people write well structured / semantic markup?
Because it’s simpler, easier to maintain, easier to remember, quicker to download and far more portable. I am amazed at how many people still don’t get this, but I think much of the blame is down to the poor authoring tools people use.
