Lea Alcantara declares her love to CSS …

Interview: timo / 9. November 2005 /

Lea AlcantaraLea Alcantara is a freelance print and web designer living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her web and graphic design studio is called lealea design. She is a design diva and an all round nice person. In her spare time she is writing a blog “xox” when she is not reading comic books or drawing mostly anime or manga inspired doodles.

Why do you love CSS?
I love CSS because of the sheer amount of flexibility inherent, especially after you’ve finished creating a website. Clients invariably wants to change something even after delivery, and with CSS, you can waste no time switching colours, typefaces, sizes – almost anything in the presentation layer – without having to hack through several HTML pages. I love it because it saves you time and money in the long run.
What drives you crazy when using CSS?
That it’s still not perfect, and of course the cross-platform, cross-browser quirks. It makes me sad when people hesitate trying to use CSS properly because the initial learning curve may be steep to the novice.
Why should people write well structured / semantic markup?
To be frank, because it makes your life as a web developer easier. It may not seem like it at first, but after coding several web standards compliant, CSS-powered sites, it proves itself to me again and again.
